The Three Lions to Begin Euro 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The English squad will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward entry for a competition staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an England men’s game since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The English side are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Opening and Protest

The event was inaugurated at an event in central London on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they entered the site by approximately 50 protesters, who called for the Israeli team to be expelled from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.

Signs were held up with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The opening game of the tournament will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will appeal to households and help engage a wider spectrum of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would do the same at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the qualification path.

Locations and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground complete the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals held at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in Belfast, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“This will be a championship for the fans and a festival of everything we value about the football – its fervor and capacity to foster unity.”

In excess of three million admissions, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be released to supporters.
