The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and the video site.
