The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown for three decades, now holds positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

The club claimed the league title last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach a different club on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”

“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see what lies ahead.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Pressed on which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.

“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled as an instance.”

Commending Arne Slot

He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed while in charge, and the effect on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash alongside his brother in July.

“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the squad missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for all the boys also. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it individually is not easy. Impossible.”
