Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
