New Details Surface Concerning the Finding of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner's Remains
New information has come to light regarding the shocking deaths of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles property on Sunday.
The Alarm
According to a report quoting a person close to the family, a therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after failing to get inside the residence. The practitioner then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
After gaining access to the residence, Romy discovered her father's body. It is said she then left the home distraught, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Another individual who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Subsequently, emergency responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Developments
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, along with the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is now in custody without bail.
Disputed Reports
The anonymous source challenged several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the property, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
The source also refuted widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in recent weeks. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This correction includes descriptions of reportedly "unpredictable" conduct by Nick at a gathering thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. Although the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they asserted that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were not correct.
Investigation Details
As stated by law enforcement officials, the coroner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Some media reports suggested the condition of their bodies pointed to they had been deceased for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the residence. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not been medically cleared and would be unable to attend until Wednesday or later.
