In Such Poor Health I Was Unable to Walk When a Man Practically Supported Me to a Restroom.

During my 19 years old, my regular journey to work was on an crowded coach. The vehicle was always full and was consistently standing room only once I boarded.

On one specific day, I was feeling incredibly sick when the coach swayed around the bends. I continuously reassured myself to endure just a little longer before the bus arrived at my stop, so I could then rush hurriedly to the closest washroom to be sick.

As we neared the street towards the destination as it dawned on me I would not be to last. Suddenly, it seemed a veil came over me. Everything just went blank and silent; like someone had cut the sound. My mind raced, “I will lose consciousness”.

Luckily I was near the front inside the vehicle, allowing me to take a couple of steps forward and requested that the driver to stop, explaining to him that I was about to be sick. He opened the doors and I hurriedly stepped out onto the street.

My intention was to avoid being sick before multiple lanes of cars, so I gathered myself and endeavored to stumble to the park across the road, where I thought I’d at least be able to secretly conceal myself behind a bush to be sick. Yet I likely blacked out. I sensed my limbs, but I was unable to walk or see properly, so I began inching my way to the park.

“Are you okay, dear?”

In that instant, I got scooped up. There was someone holding me and a stranger inquired, “You right, love?” I told this kind passerby that I needed to vomit. So he virtually carried me into an adjacent building and guided me in the ladies’ toilets. He asked me if I needed him to remain with me but I said no.

After a short while, I had recovered enough to sit on the restroom floor and from the other side of the stall I heard him ask, “Are you feeling better, dear? Is there anything you require?” I was incapable to rise right away but I was able to thank him and following a brief period recovered the use of my legs. I returned home and then spent the next few days recovering from what was later diagnosed as a nasty tummy bug.

I never saw his features – merely his legs along with a sizable steelwork tools container he held – but he saved me, during a time when I was in my weakest state.

Many times, life can make you self-protective, pushy, and rivalrous. His act was the type of kindness that undoes that emotional callousness. He was proof that humanity’s innate tendency leans toward compassion, a quality I adore about humanity.
