A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Be Super Effective On Resellers
To celebrate the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators and London's Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store stocked with exclusive merchandise. Fans can look forward to products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the institution's theme. The big draw, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. The store will operate from the physical location to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.
Pokécology Behind the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited volume filled with beautiful artwork depicting Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially is the kind of research an in-world scientist might publish after adventurers submit their data, alternatively a naturalist's journal could have sketched if the famous islands were populated by flying-types instead of finches. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as worthy of scientific study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.
Why This Promo Card Stand Out
It is common to issue special edition cards for big events or crossover partnerships. A lot of these promotional cards often feature the iconic mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. The factor setting this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger size. Although exact measurements were not immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, with fans limited to only a single card per purchase.
Limiting Speculator Interest
Per an official announcement, a portion of the merchandise may also be available beyond the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be select retailers within the UK. Critically, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the official web shop. Although speculator demand is inevitable, the setup suggests they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. If you're unable to attend, there is an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to the Windy City later this year.
"Every penny of sales made in the Museum shop and from its web shop, which covers Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the research of hundreds of researchers who are scientific inquiry to discover solutions to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
